Shein is Evil

Currently, Shein is under major controversy for what seems like the hundredth time this year. Previously the company was met with scrutiny for copying designs from smaller designers and for being dangerous to the environment, but now they are facing a whole new wave of outrage. Recently, people have been looking into working conditions for Shein factory workers and the truth is not pretty. Reports show that the company’s factories currently use child labor and heavily underpay and overwork their adult employees. In some factories, Shein workers are only paid around $560 a month if they make a whopping 500 clothes a day. Some workers work 7 days a week and have 18-hour shifts a day. Some customers even received messages from the workers themselves on the tags of their clothing. Alarming phrases like “HELP” or “I HAVE DENTAL PAIN” started appearing on the tags of merchandise purchased from Shein, bringing more attention to what might really be going on behind the scenes. Of course, this isn’t even close to the only company engaging in these kinds of practices. Out of 260 million children around the world who are employed, 170 million are engaged in child labor. Of course, the majority of these children work for fast fashion companies, such as Shein. These companies are acknowledging the recent outcry from consumers and are claiming that these practices will not be tolerated, but who knows how much truth is actually in their words.
